DISTRICT RESIDENTS APPROVE 2012-13 BUDGET Residents of the Sweet Home Central School District approved the 2012-2013 district budget, Tuesday, May 15, by a vote of 879 “yes” to 213 “no”. Of the 1,102 voters, 80% voted to pass the budget. Voters also approved Proposition No. 1 to spend $442,000 to purchase four (4) buses by a vote of 767 “yes” to 311 “no”. Proposition #2 – a $645,000 EXCEL Project to improve the District’s technology and telephone infrastructures – passed by a vote of 848 “yes” to 228 “no”. The $67,333,007 budget represents an increase of 0.01% over the previous year. This is the third year in a row that the approved budget has had over $2 million in spending reductions. Under this scenario, the average tax bill for an Amherst home assessed at $120,000 with STAR exemption would increase approximately $5 from the current year. The increase would translate to a total annual tax bill of approximately $1,290. A similar home in the Town of Tonawanda with the new town Equalization Rate of 47% would see a tax bill increase of approximately $6. The increase would translate to a total annual tax bill of $1,289. In the school board election, Marianne Jasen and Douglas J. Galli won election receiving 883 and 662 votes respectively. Jasen and Galli were elected to five (5) year terms which will expire on June 30, 2017. Jack I. Reich also ran for school board and received 391 votes.
